Question about Guild Wars Platinum Edition. - Guild Wars Forums

I am thinking about buying the Guild Wars Platinum edition so that my wife and I can play Guild Wars together. I bought the game awhile ago and have been meaning to get her into it (I did once before but then we hit a little snag called WoW, sadly).

My question is I only have the original Prophecies game so how much would I be missing out on? I am thinking about getting Eye of the North as well but I was wondering if it would be worth it for me at this time?

My intention is to make it through the Prophecies campaign with her first, however, I am unsure as to whether or not the path from Prophecies to Eye of the North is that linear? Is it possible (and is it recommended if it is possible?) to do Eye of the North content without having completed the original Prophecies content?

I just don't want their to be too big a discrepancy between what is available for us to play and if the content in Eye of the North was accessible from the get go I just might pick it up for myself as well.

Get Nightfall for the heroes, makes PvE much easier with them.

It is perfectly kosher to just buy Prophecies (well... two of them, one for you and one for your wife) and play through that campaign alone. If you bought Eye of the North, you would be able to access that content about a quarter of the way through Prophecies. EotN is really geared towards top level characters (level 20s... and you probably wouldn't be that high at the time), but lower levels can play with an inherent buff... it just would be harder, of course. Nice thing would be, though, that you would obtain heroes (your own personal configurable/equippable AI helpers) that will make the remainder of Prophecies easier.

My suggestion... play through Prophecies until you were able to hop over to EotN, pick up your heroes, then continue on with Prophecies.

These days, it is much more cost effective to pick up all three campaigns as a trilogy pack and then add the EotN expansion. Nothing says you have to play all of them at once. Take your time, have fun.

Well, the reason I am asking is because I have an Amazon Prime trial I just signed up for so the shipping would be free and the Guild Wars Platinum edition (Prophecies/ Eye of the North) is actually only $8.26. So the Platinum edition is cheaper than just buying Prophecies alone and not only that but buying the Platinum edition for myself to access the Eye of the North content is cheaper than buying Eye of the North by itself.

The Guild Wars Game of the Year edition is the cheapest way to buy Prophecies and that is $19.99 and if I bought two copies of the Platinum edition it would only be $16.52. Also, I won't have to pay shipping on these so all I have to do is pay the $16 for two copies of Prophecies/ Eye of the North.

edit: I am convincing myself lol, I think this is probably the best way to go. I don't want to spend too much trying to get her into the game on the off chance that she doesn't dig it as much as I hope she will (even though I am pretty positive she will, she did before she played WoW). I guess my question is is it worth it for me to grab the Platinum edition for Eye of The North since I am going to buy the Platinum edition for her as well?

Afaik, the only difference in the platinum edition is the addition of some /bonus weapons and maybe a fire imp or something. You wouldn't be lacking any game content, in the sense of quests or areas to explore.

You can go to EotN once you get to Lion's Arch. There is a small quest involved - it prompts you with who to get the quest from, when you enter LA. As has been mentioned, the content in EotN is designed for level 20 players, but you would normally be less than lvl20 if you go there from Prophecies. However there are buffs to help you out (and the Fire Imp) and you will level up quite quickly.

Right on, I am going to order them both today. I have the Prime trial on Amazon so I should be getting them in two days or so. I can't wait to get back into GW. I am really looking forward to GW2 also, so this should be a nice transition into it once it arrives in '11.

Is there anymore advice I should be aware of for someone that is pretty much a n00b?

Play the way you want, don't listen too much to the experts. You can't do anything 'wrong' in Guild Wars.

Oh, and enjoying the game, that's something to do for sure.

Right on, thanks for the tips. I'll mostly be playing with my wife the majority of the time but I am definitely going to keep my eye out for a good guild. I just ordered two copies off of Amazon so they should be here in a few days, I am stoked

The only requirement to play EoTN is to be at least level 10 and reach a port city (Lion's Arch for Prophecies). Because the content in EoTN is geared to level 20s, any character below that level will receive a "buff" that brings your character up max level while in that area.

Keep in mind that they need to be equipped as if they were a character. You need to add insignia and runes to their armor and give them decent builds and weapons. If you do not have the gold to do this then use the henchmen who are much better than badly equipped heroes.

Getting the entire collection is the right thing to do with current prices. Heros are absolutely worth it. I "started late" in GW as well and sometimes there are just not many ppl available for the missions.

Make a char where you like the "look and feel". I started in Proph, bc I like the char models best there, but thats just me. Nightfall story is good too.

Also once you get to LA, go to EotN (and maybe NF) to collect the heros and get good armor. And collect the MOX hero outside LA if you got the entire collection (requirement). After that continue with the story line or do whatever you feel like.

Lucky your wife likes to play as well ;-))

Heroes sound really, really awesome. I am glad that I bought the EotN expansion, I am thinking that we are really going to enjoy this. I can't wait to actually get a little further into the game and start doing some more PvP stuff with my wife as well. Eventually I plan on buying Factions and Nightfall but figured that I would start at the beginning first.
